Behaving somewhat like the fussy pedants Larson skewered in his cartoons, these academics would send corrections on anachronisms or other minor inaccuracies in his depiction of the natural world.

Gary Larsons teckningar är oerhört roliga och ofta med en dragning åt vetenskapliga ting — inte så lite likt xkcd, även om stilarna ofta är nog så olika. Och man kan föreställa sig hur skämtteckningar med lite intellektuell nivå drar till sig folk som kan vara väldigt noga med vad som är rätt och fel. Åtminstone ibland. För nog är det något speciellt med folk som accepterar att en isbjörn bär en pingvinmask, men inte att den delar isflak med pingviner?

Här vet jag inte vilken bild som avses. Det finns en del mygg-bilder i Larsons galleri men jag hittar ingen där detta intressanta fel görs.

Jag tror jag precis förstår vad som menas. Om jag t ex skulle skoja till det med isbjörnar och pingviner i samma bild så vore det helt okej, givet att jag vet att isbjörnar och pingviner lever i norr resp. söder. Om jag inte visste hur det låg till så hade det kännts genant på ett helt annat sätt.
