Indiana Jones och den fejkade födande guldgudinnan

Finns det någon mer känd scen med Indiana Jones än den första? Den från "South America, 1936" där han tar sig in i ett gammalt tempel, plockar med sig en avgudabild och med en hårsmån lyckas ta sig ut.

Det intressantaste är inte att avgudabilden är i färd med att föda (hur många som nu noterat det). Det intressantaste är den inspirerats av en riktig staty, som möjligen/förmodligen/definitivt (beroende på vem man frågar) är oäkta.

The Dumbarton Oaks birthing figure is a possibly Aztec scapolite figurine of a woman giving childbirth in a squatting position. Housed in the Dumbarton Oaks collection, United States, the figurine is considered by several scholars to be a pre-Columbian artwork, while others believe it was made in modern times, possibly in the 19th century.

The choice of stone, the complicated carving in the round, the birthing position, the facial expression of the mother, the somewhat grotesque realism, the lack of iconographic detail all point to a highly idiosyncratic work.
